Hong Kong singer-actress Miriam Yeung (pic) has been seen at several events in recent weeks, but unknown to many people, she had just undergone an operation.

The 51-year-old was a guest performer at Chinese singer Jike Junyi’s concert in Shenzhen in late July and performed at Strawberry Music Festival in Harbin in mid-August.

Yeung was a guest performer at Hong Kong singer Terence Lam’s concert in Hong Kong in late August. She then appeared with American actor Daniel Wu and Hong Kong actor William Chan for a branding event in Shanghai.

In addition, Yeung was a guest performer at Hong Kong singer-actor Jordan Chan’s concert in Chengdu on Sept 6.

“I have finally beat the target after working for 12 consecutive days,” Yeung wrote in Chinese on social media on Sept 7. “Looking back a few weeks ago, I was a little worried when a routine ‘factory check-up’ turned into ‘repairs’.”

She shared several photos of her working and a final photo of a cannula inserted into her hand without disclosing what the operation was for.

“Thankfully, it was just a minor issue,” Yeung wrote. “A few days after the procedure, Cherie Yu made it to the stage on time.” She was referring to her character in the Love In A Puff film trilogy (2010 to 2017), which also starred Hong Kong actor Shawn Yue.

“To this day, I remain deeply grateful to my colleagues and the team for their care and support,” she wrote. She added: “I’m slowly recovering now, but still need proper rest to get back in shape.”

Yeung has a 13-year-old son with her husband, Hong Kong public relations executive Real Ting, 46.

She had revealed on social media in 2013 that she had been discharged from hospital after an operation which went well, without disclosing details.

Yeung said in a 2020 episode of Chinese reality show Viva La Romance that she had struggled with uterine fibroids, which are benign tumours in the uterus, while pregnant, and had even tried to abort the child.

The singer will be holding four concerts at the Hong Kong Coliseum from Nov 29 to Dec 2 to mark her 30th year in show business in 2025. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network
