Selena Gomez celebrated her newly engaged best friend Taylor Swift by looking back on a remark the latter said about love some 16 years ago.

The Who Says singer shared Swift and footballer Travis Kelce’s announcement through her Instagram Stories on Thursday, Aug 28.

“When bestie gets engaged,” she captioned it, adding a smiling face with hearts emoji.

Gomez then turned sentimental as she was reminded of an advice she received from Swift in 2009. The remark, which was shared via their X (formerly Twitter) pages, resurfaced after netizens reposted it on the platform along with photos of the singers’ respective engagements.

“Discussing love with two 9 year olds. That’s what love supposed to be. Truly amazing, I’m never leaving Canada,” Gomez said in April 2009.

Responding to this, Swift wrote, “Real love still happens sometimes. It’s not just something we make up when we’re nine. I have to believe that. You do too.”

Swift earlier announced her engagement to Kelce, while Gomez revealed to the public last December that she had said yes to producer-songwriter Benny Blanco’s marriage proposal.

Swift and Gomez have been close friends since 2008. Their friendship started during the time the former was dating Joe Jonas while the latter was in a relationship with his brother Nick Jonas.

“She and I like to say the best thing we got out of those relationships was each other because it was really sweet,” Gomez said. – Philippine Daily Inquirer/Asia News Network
