Popular Hong Kong actress Ali Lee Kai-sum, who was in Malaysia filming the upcoming Astro drama The Exiled, revealed that she unexpectedly fell ill during the shoot.

She stars opposite fellow Hong Kong actor Chris Lai Lok-yi in the series.

According to an article by Sin Chew, Lee shared that she had to take 10 types of medication – including painkillers and sore throat remedies – while unwell.

Fortunately, the medicine helped, and she made a significant recovery although she had a cough that didn't go away for awhile.

In a behind-the-scenes video, the 42-year-old expressed gratitude to Lai who took care of her when she was ill. It was previously reported that Lee took the role in The Exiled partly because of her friendship with Lai.

In the video, the duo spoke about their experience filming in Malaysia.

Lee recalled how Lai encouraged her to get some sun and looked after her when she was feeling unwell.

She humorously shared that at one point she knocked on Lai’s hotel room door to ask for medicine, saying: “His room became like a pharmacy. When I was coughing really badly, I went knocking and said, ‘Excuse me doctor, I need medicine'.”

Meanwhile, Lai added that many people were concerned about Lee’s condition and would often call him to check if she was feeling better.

Lee left TVB last year after 12 years with the company.
