The highly anticipated sequel of the 2006 hit film The Devil Wears Prada is officially in production, with returning cast members Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci.

This was announced by 20th Century Studios through its Instagram page on Tuesday, July 1, sharing a teaser that features two red stilettos while famous dialogues from the first film play in the background.

"The Devil Wears Prada 2. Now in production,” the caption reads.

The sequel is set to be filmed in New York and Italy, as per industry sources. It will reportedly centre on the career of Streep’s Miranda Priestly amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing.

Blunt will return as Priestly’s former assistant who will face off with her ex-boss as a high-powered executive of a luxury brand conglomerate. It was not immediately known how Hathaway’s Andy Sachs will be incorporated into the story.

Aside from the original cast, Kenneth Branagh will join the film and portray the role of Priestly’s husband.

The sequel being in the works was first confirmed in July 2024, with film writer Aline Brosh McKenna saying she was in the process of writing the follow-up.

Film director David Frankel will also return to helm The Devil Wears Prada 2, which will reportedly hit theatres on May 1, 2026. – Philippine Daily Inquirer/Asia News Network
