Hong Kong actor Tsui Wing may have received multiple Best Supporting Actor nominations over his 27-year career, but his journey to stardom was far from smooth.

In a recent interview with Headline Daily, Tsui, 50, shared that before stepping into the entertainment scene, he juggled multiple jobs, including working as a chef, construction worker and delivery driver.

“Looking back, I used to think I was invincible … that I could do anything.

“It wasn’t until I stepped into the entertainment industry and met more people that I realised how small I was, how much I had to learn and how much I was lacking,” he said.

The actor then detailed how joining TVB in 1998 changed both his life and personality, making him more easygoing and accepting.

He’s known for his roles in dramas such as Best Selling Secrets (2007-2008), Come Home Love (2012-2015), Master Of Play (2012) and Brother’s Keeper II (2015), among others.

“All the major milestones in my life happened while I was at TVB. I got married in 2006, welcomed my first child in 2007, started landing bigger roles, had my daughter in 2015, and now my son has just turned 18. My entire life has unfolded within this company,” he said.

In the interview, Tsui shared that for the past five years, he has been focused on finding ways to increase his income.

The actor recalled opening a tutoring centre in hopes of creating multiple revenue streams, but the business was forced to close its doors due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Although Tsui didn't disclose the exact amount he lost in the failed venture, he revealed that it was a hefty amount.

“I was unlucky – just a year after opening, the pandemic hit, and it (the pandemic) lasted for three years. Of course, I had to shut down my business. I lost a six-figure sum,” he said.
