Singer and songwriter Wheesung was found dead at his home at Gwangjin-gu, northern Seoul, police said Monday.

The fire authorities reportedly arrived at the artiste's house at 6.29pm after receiving an unspecified report from Wheesung's family.

Authorities believe that a significant amount of time had passed before his body was found, based on the circumstances at the scene. They are currently investigating the cause of death.

Wheesung’s agency Tajoy Entertainment expressed its deepest condolences and profound sorrow to share the tragic news with the fans who have given the artist their unwavering support and love.

Debuted in 2002, Wheesung made a name for himself as a ballad and R&B singer here with hits such as Can’t You (2002), Insomnia (2009), Even Thought Of marriage (2010) and more.

Wheesung came under fire after he was indicted on charges of illegally using propofol -- a powerful anesthetic -- in 2020. The artiste was sentenced to one year in prison, suspended for two years, in his appellate trial in 2021.

He was scheduled to hold a concert alongside another ballad singer KCM at Exco in Daegu on Saturday. – The Korea Herald/Asia News Network
