Malaysian composer Lenny Ooi is grieving the loss of his daughter-in-law, Chai Mei Huei, who passed away in a car accident on Feb 18. She was 30.

The news was announced by Ooi’s son Benjamin on Feb 19.

He also provided details of the wake, which will take place at Nirvana Center Kuala Lumpur in Seputeh until Friday (Feb 21), followed by a funeral service on Feb 22.

In a Facebook post, Ooi expressed sorrow over Chai’s sudden passing, revealing that he and his wife had always regarded her as their daughter since she joined the family 13 years ago.

“I never expected that this test would come so suddenly and be so painful ... Thank you for bringing so much joy to our family over the years and giving us two smart and lovely grandchildren,” he said.

Ooi, who’s also a singer, then recalled a quote from his granddaughter Rhea, who told him: “Everyone has their own fate. My mum’s time has come, and she can only continue until here.”

Vowing to care for his grandchildren and ensure they grow up healthy, Ooi also reassured that his son Benjamin would continue looking after Chai’s parents as if they were his own.

He added that Chai will always be a member of the Ooi family and will continue living in their hearts.

“You will forever be the Ooi family's good daughter-in-law. We will always love you,” he said.
