Hong Kong actress Selena Lee has announced her split from her fiance, fitness trainer Anson Cha, just days before Valentine's Day.

In an Instagram update on Feb 9, Lee shared a photo of a flower bouquet, alongside a caption revealing that she has called off their engagement.

"Two months ago, Mr Cha and I made a decision to take different paths. I'm grateful for the eight-and-a-half years we shared. We're both doing well," the 44-year-old wrote.

Lee shared that the decision was mutual, made carefully with love and well-wishes for one another.

She also urged the public to respect their privacy during this time, especially Cha's, as he's not from the entertainment industry.

Lee then reflected on the nature of happiness, saying it's not solely defined by marriage but by the meaningful moments shared in a relationship.

"Meeting someone who helps you learn and grow, someone you find worthy of love, is also a form of happiness. Throughout this journey, there has been effort, sincerity, growth and love," she said.

While Lee didn't disclose the reason behind the split, she did offer some words of wisdom on relationships.

"No separation is ever truly the conclusion, so don't hold onto rigid ideas, and don't let others' opinions affect your decisions. Follow your heart, listen to yourself and find peace and happiness in your own way," she wrote.

Lee and Cha, who dated for nearly nine years, got engaged in February 2021.

In a 2022 interview with TVB actress Carol Cheng, Lee revealed that they had not held their wedding due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

"I'm in no hurry to marry. Many people already address me as Mrs Cha, so it's OK... I already see myself as that. The marriage certificate is just a formality," she said then.
