Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh is the latest celebrity to mourn the death of Barbie Hsu on social media.

Yeoh, 62, starred with Hsu and South Korean actor Jung Woo-sung in the martial arts film Reign Of Assassins (2010).

The Oscar winner wrote on Feb 8: “Shocked and deeply saddened we have lost a shining star. RIP dear Da S (Big S). Heartfelt condolences to family and all who love you.”

Meanwhile, Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, announced on Feb 8 that it has indefinitely suspended the accounts of Barbie Hsu’s former husband, Chinese businessman Wang Xiaofei, and his mother, Chinese entrepreneur Zhang Lan.

Douyin said certain accounts have been making speculations about Hsu’s death and spreading false rumours about the late actress, thereby violating public order and morality, disrespecting the deceased and their family, and hurting public sentiments.

However, netizens discovered that Zhang was swift to open an account on TikTok, with the account having more than 1,675 followers as at Feb 9 afternoon.

Douyin also said it is indefinitely suspending the account of “I am Xia Xiaojian”, said to belong to Zhang’s godson.

The account claimed that the private jet charter used to transport Barbie Hsu’s ashes from Japan to Taiwan on Feb 5 was arranged and paid for by Wang.

Barbie Hsu's sister Dee Hsu rebutted the rumour via her manager and said all arrangements were handled by the Hsu family, with the air charter service platform confirming that the fees were paid by Dee. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network
