Hong Kong’s Tavia Yeung, who missed out on the Best Actress win at the TVB Anniversary Awards on Jan 19, congratulated the winners in a social media post the next day. But she expressed disappointment on behalf of her husband Him Law, who lost out on the Best Actor prize.
Yeung was named the Greater Bay Area’s Most Favourite TVB Actress for her role as a trauma survivor turned crisis manager in revenge drama Darkside Of The Moon.
The 45-year-old was one of the five nominees for Best Actress alongside Rosina Lam, her co-star in Darkside Of The Moon, Kelly Cheung and Katy Kung (Big Biz Duel), as well as Elaine Yiu (No Room For Crime).
Yeung was tipped for the win, but lost to Kung, who played a logistics queen.
The unexpected result generated much online buzz, with some netizens saying Yeung or Lam would have been more worthy winners.
Law, 40, the front runner for Best Actor for his role as a cheating husband in Happily Ever After?, lost to Owen Cheung, 37, who played an undercover cop in the crime drama No Room For Crime.
Yeung admitted to Hong Kong media that she was disappointed with the results on behalf of her husband and elder sister, actress Lenna Yeung, 47, who was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for Darkside Of The Moon.
“2024 has come to an end and this year has been a very fruitful one,” Tavia Yeung wrote in Chinese on Instagram on Jan 20.
“As a performer, to be a part of a great classic drama is something that can be encountered only by chance, and the greatest reward is to keep the faith and do my best in every role.”
Yeung used hashtags such as #AchievementUnlocked and posted several photos, including two of herself with her trophy and one of herself with Law. She also thanked the viewers and fans who voted for her.
Tagging her husband in the post, she wrote: “The Best Actor winner in my mind. We love you.”
Actress Priscilla Wong, who attended the ceremony while more than five months pregnant, commented on Yeung’s post: “You are the best.”
Yeung replied: “Sister, you and my elder sister are also the best.”
Wong, 43, was also nominated for Best Supporting Actress for Darkside Of The Moon. The award went to Kelly Fu, who played a housewife involved in a cryptocurrency scam in No Room For Crime.
Yeung also shared on Instagram Stories a clip with the caption “Every actor deserves a round of applause”.
