Hong Kong-based Malaysian actress Jacquelin Ch’ng has sparked concern among her fans after sharing a suspicious message she received, believed to be part of a scam.
On Tuesday (Jan 21), Ch’ng, who’s based in Hong Kong, posted a screenshot of a proposed brand deal she had received from a purported advertising agency in Thailand.
The message, written in Chinese, claimed that a swimwear brand was interested in partnering with the TVB star.
It also listed Phuket and Pattaya as potential filming locations, with the company offering six months of photo usage rights.
“Our client has a six-figure budget for the shoot. We invite Ms. Ch’ng to collaborate with us,” it said.
The vague nature of the offer raised suspicions for the 44-year-old, who quickly took to her Instagram Story to express her concerns.
“How can one determine if this advertising offer, which mentions filming in Thailand, is genuine or fake?” she questioned.
Ch’ng is not the only celebrity to have encountered scams recently.
Last week, Singaporean actor Laurence Pang, 78, revealed that he had lost nearly S$35,000 (RM114,830) after meeting a woman on a dating site, who persuaded him to invest in a fraudulent online business in the Philippines.
Earlier this month, Chinese actor Wang Xing, 22, was rescued from a human trafficking ring after being lured by a fake filming opportunity in Thailand. He was reportedly forced to train as a scammer in Myanmar.
