Homegrown artiste Lyia Meta has achieved a major milestone on the global stage by becoming the first Malaysian singer to be part of a Grammy nomination.
She earned this recognition for the song Delta Shine, featured on Latin-American musician Antonio Vergara’s album The Fury, which secured a nomination in the Best Contemporary Blues Album category.
Expressing her excitement on Instagram, Meta said she feels honoured to be featured on a Grammy-nominated project.
“Nominated for a Grammy! It’s an honour to be part of this remarkable album and to have my voice featured on Delta Shine (Track 2).
“This project brought together a lineup of amazing artistes, each adding their own unique touch to create something truly powerful,” she captioned her post.
The 2025 Grammy nominations were announced on Nov 8, with the prestigious awards ceremony set to take place on Feb 2 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
This isn’t the first time Meta has made Malaysia proud on the global stage.
In 2022, she took home two international music awards – Female Vocalist Of The Year and Performance Of The Year at the Texas Sounds International Country Music Awards.
Based in Kuala Lumpur, Meta has released two albums, three EPs and 24 singles.
While she is the first Malaysian singer to be part of a Grammy nomination, Malaysian-born composer Zuraini Khalid Zonneveld previously earned a Grammy for a blues album.
Based in the United States, Zonneveld co-wrote the song One Friend for American musician Keb’ Mo’s Keep It Simple, which took home the Grammy for Best Contemporary Blues Album in 2005.
Another trailblazer with local roots is Malaysian-American audio engineer and mixer Phil Tan, who has 14 Grammy nominations and three Grammy wins under his belt.
