The wait for Hebe Tien’s new album may soon be over.
The Mandopop star, who has not updated her Instagram account since April, posted on Sept 3 a photo which was captioned “On the way”. A piece of paper with the heading “Listening meeting for Hebe Tien’s sixth album on Sept 2, 2024” can be seen. The post included emojis of a sloth and multiple musical notes.
Tien, part of popular Taiwanese girl group S.H.E, used hashtags for the phrases “Thank you for accompanying me to this point no matter rain or shine” and “Let’s keep going together”.
Her post received more than 2,000 comments, with some fans noting that Sept 3 was the 14th anniversary of the release of her first solo album To Hebe (2010). The 41-year-old has since released four more solo albums.
Her last record, Time Will Tell, was released on Sept 25, 2020. It nabbed three awards at Taiwan’s Golden Melody Awards, including Best Female Singer (Mandarin) for Tien.
Tien dropped a bombshell in May 2023 when she said on social media that she was not sure if she would hold another concert after her shows at the Taipei Arena in August that year.
The singer released a single, Glimpses Of A Journey, in August 2023 and was in Singapore in October for music festival One Love Asia Festival Singapore.
She was due to perform at a music and arts festival in China’s Tianjin city in May, but was dropped from the line-up three days after the announcement due to backlash from an August 2022 incident, where she was accused by Chinese netizens of supporting Taiwan independence.
At that time, Tien deleted two pictures of herself eating spaghetti on Instagram after she was accused by Chinese netizens of supporting then United States House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan. Spaghetti is “Italian noodles” in Chinese and Pelosi is of Italian heritage. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network
