Jenna Ortega is once again addressing the “insane” rumour that she and Johnny Depp were “in a serious relationship.”

Asked by BuzzFeed for the craziest rumour she’s heard about herself, the 21-year-old scream queen pointed to talk of a romance with the Pirates Of The Caribbean star, 61.

“Probably that I was in a serious relationship with Johnny Depp,” said the Wednesday star. “It’s so insane to me, like I never spoke on that. I never said anything like that. Articles really do just make up their own quotes.”

Ortega took the chatter in stride though, saying she found the rumors “pretty hilarious.”

“I was on set with (Death Of A Unicorn co-star) Richard E. Grant and he came up to me, and he just said, ‘Oh, so you and Johnny?’ And I laughed, because I don’t know that person,” she recalled.

Ortega and Depp were linked last summer through DeuxMoi, a pop culture site and Instagram account that publishes celebrity blind items.

The outlet at the time alleged the actors had been seen together, possibly working on the Beetlejuice sequel – helmed again by original director Tim Burton, who for years collaborated with Depp.

Ortega also addressed the rumours in late August 2023, writing on Instagram: “This is so ridiculous I can’t even laugh.”

“I have never met or worked with Johnny Depp in my life,” she wrote at the time, per NME. “Please stop spreading lies and leave us alone.”

A rep for Depp – whose mainstream career was derailed amid allegations he abused ex-wife Amber Heard, against whom he later won their 2022 defamation trial – also denied both the rumoured romance and his casting in the Beetlejuice sequel. – New York Daily News/Tribune News Service
