The rumour about director Syamsul Yusof expecting a child with his wife Ira Kazar continues to be a hot topic among netizens lately.

Responding to the speculation, producer Datuk Yusof Haslam admitted that he was unaware of the news as he and his son had not been in contact for a long time.

Thus, Yusof, 70, declined to comment further on the matter, fearing it would hurt the feelings of his wife, Datin Patimah Ismail, and their son.

"I don't know... my wife and I have been out of touch with Syamsul for a long time. So I can't speak about things I don't know about, it might turn out differently. I don't want to comment because I want to protect everyone's feelings. My wife's and my family's feelings," he told mStar, The Star's Malay-language portal, when met at the premiere of the film Ngesot in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday (May 7).

He also said that he should hear the good news from his son and not from a third party.

"To be honest, I'm not comfortable (to give an answer). Although as a celebrity we cannot ignore the media, there should be a limit. If you want to know if there is any truth to the news, it's better to ask the person himself," he said.

Despite not being in touch with Syamsul, Yusof said he and his wife will always support and pray for his well-being.

Yusof is glad to see both Syamsul and his younger brother, Syafiq Yusof, are having successful careers in the film industry.

Syafiq's new film Sheriff is the No.1 movie at the Malaysia box office at the moment, while Syamsul is getting ready to release his film The Original Gangster.

"As a parent, I pray for his success. Whether his brother succeeds or he succeeds, both of them are successful in producing hit films.

"Even though The Original Gangster is not under Skop Production, I will still give my full support to his new film," he said.

Syamsul married actress Ira Kazar in Thailand on Jan 6 last year. At that time, he was still married to Puteri Sarah Liyana.

On June 14, 2023, Syamsul divorced actress Puteri Sarah Liyana after nine years of marriage.

Yusof had previously mentioned that Syamsul had not returned home for a long time without knowing the real reason.
