Datuk Seri Adnan Abu, the husband of local singer Adira Suhaimi, recently disclosed that he is bankrupt.

In an interview with mStar, The Star’s Malay-language news portal, Adnan, better known as Datuk Red, revealed that he declared bankruptcy in 2019 and had since been relying on the support of Adira due to his failure to secure a stable job.

The 46-year-old businessman made headlines on March 26 when he posted a TikTok of himself searching for a job, saying he wants to settle his remaining debts and support his four children.

“If I never try, I’ll never know! My post on TikTok is just me being brave.

“I cannot sit in silence and allow others at home to be responsible for me. I don’t care what job it is as long as it’s halal,” he said.

Adnan added that many have advised him to pick up ehailing. However, he felt that the job wouldn’t be enough to pay off his debts.

“I have too many debts ... we’re talking about millions. I’ve messaged my friends asking if I could become an agent at Baju Melayu (shops) but they haven’t replied to me.

“I don’t want to die with debts,” he lamented.

Admitting that he feels pressured by the situation, Adnan revealed that he had considered taking his own life. However, thinking of his kids and holding onto faith have kept him strong.

Adnan also expressed gratitude towards Adira, 32, for helping him over the past five years.

On Oct 25 last year, Adira filed for divorce from Adnan on the grounds that there was no understanding between them.

The couple tied the knot in Thailand on Dec 3, 2015.

Despite the ongoing divorce, Adira reiterated that she will do whatever she can to help Adnan. She also asked everyone to pray for Adnan and give him strength during this difficult time.
