Local singer Jeryl Lee Pei Ling recently made waves on the Internet after emerging as the champion of Chinese reality TV singing competition show, The Next 2023.

At 23 years old, Lee – who started performing at eight – has been steadily gaining recognition for her powerful vocals.

Not only did she place first in the Water Cube Cup overseas Chinese youth singing contest in 2014; she was also one of the six finalists on Sing! China in 2016.

As Lee’s popularity continues to soar, her appearance has also become a topic of interest among social media users.

In a recent Instagram update, the Penang-born singer shared five photos in which she sported an all-black ensemble paired with a black headpiece.

Many netizens left comments under the post, saying that she looks similar to Blackpink’s Thai member Lisa. Some also referred to her as the “Malaysian Lisa” and “mini Lisa”.

“At first glance, she looks kind of like Lisa. Congrats (on your win in China) and good luck for the future,” one netizen wrote.

Another also agreed, saying: “So pretty. I thought it was Blackpink’s Lisa at first.”

Although flattered by the comparisons, Lee personally doesn’t think she looks like the Money hitmaker.

“I take it as a compliment, but my close friends and I don’t think we look alike. Some people who have just met me at that moment may see a resemblance,” she said, as per Singapore news portal 8days.

Meanwhile, Lisa recently sent the Internet into frenzy after performing five shows at Crazy Horse Paris. It is reported that over 50,000 fans vied for tickets to see the 26-year-old, underscoring her star power.

Last August, Lisa earned a Guinness World Record after becoming the first K-pop solo artiste to win at the MTV Video Music Awards. She won in the Best K-pop Video category for her hit song, Lalisa.
