Did you know that American actress Awkwafina used to live in Malaysia?

In a recent video released by TGV Cinemas to promote The Little Mermaid, Awkwafina and her co-star Jacob Tremblay – who play Scuttle and Flounder respectively – encouraged Malaysian fans to watch the new movie in cinemas.

In the promo video, the actress, whose real name is Nora Lum, revealed that she used to live in Kuala Lumpur and would watch movies at the aforementioned cinema chain.

“I used to go watch movies there. It’s a good place,” she said.

The 35-year-old, who hails from New York, also gave a quick shout-out to Malaysian viewers, saying, “Hi Malaysia! I love you and I miss you.”

Though Awkwafina didn’t reveal much about her stay in Kuala Lumpur, she previously told Harper’s Bazaar that she loved the food in the city and described the place to be “a cool food city”.

“I really enjoyed the food when I went to Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. They had this dish called Hainan(ese) chicken (rice) and roti canai. I’m obsessed with it,” she said.

Awkwafina shot to international stardom in 2018 after playing as the funny and unfiltered Peik Lin in the hit comedy-drama film, Crazy Rich Asians.

Though set in Singapore, part of the movie was shot in KL, which was most likely how she got to taste the delectable cuisines in the city.
