Twenty-two years was how long it took for popular Taiwanese singer Richie Jen to reunite with the woman he saved.

Jen, known for classic hits like Too Softhearted and Dui Zhe, successfully held his show in Shenyang, Liaoning province on Sunday (May 28).

During the song request session, a woman shared a story about how the 56-year-old saved her two decades ago and thanked him for his act of kindness.

“I am 23 years old this year, but I have known you for 22 years already,” she said and took out two photos of Jen holding her in his arms when she was a child.

The fan then revealed that she was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect when she was only a year old.

At the time, she was unable to seek medical treatment due to financial difficulties at home, and it was Jen who extended a helping hand.

“You were on your way to Shenyang for your concert and after seeing a news report (about my struggles), you donated 30,000 yuan (RM19,508) so I could go for surgery,” she said.

Another woman, identified by Sin Chew Daily as the fan's relative, also showed a cutout of the newspaper article as evidence.

The story drew cheers from the audience. Expressing surprise at meeting the woman he saved 22 years ago, Jen exclaimed: “You have grown so much!”

The fan then requested for the song Don’t Change and said: “I hope the love between the both of us won’t change, nor will the love in the world.”

This was all captured on video and uploaded by Mammoth News on Weibo. It has since gone viral with over 4.9 million views at press time.

It touched the hearts of netizens who praised Jen for his generosity.

“When (Jen) donated the money then, he probably never thought he would never meet her again in this life,” one netizen said.

“This is proof there is true love in this world. Brother Jen deserves to be popular for many more years to come,” another commented.

One fan weighed in: “This is really touching. Donating without expecting anything in return, the child whose life was saved expressing gratitude ... there is still love in the world.”
