The 5th Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest) kicks off this Sunday (July 10) at Pavilion KL with the US film Edge Of The World as its opening film.

Directed by Michael Haussman, the film is based on Sarawak's first Rajah, Sir James Brooke.

Shot in Sarawak – with the support of Sarawak Tourism Board – the movie stars Irish actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Hong Kong actress Josie Ho, British actor Dominic Monaghan and Malaysian actor Bront Palarae.

The movie will be screened at Dadi Cinema, Pavilion KL, on Sunday to invited guests with director Haussman and cast members in attendance.

Movie fans can also look forward to other international titles to be shown at this year's MIFFest.

Besides movie screenings, there's also a Masterclass with Haussman (July 12) as well as one with Philippine director Brillante Mendoza (July 15).

There are forums scheduled, one of which is on "The New Wave Directors" featuring Malaysian filmmakers Chong Keat Aun and Edmund Yeo as its speakers.

All events will take place at Dadi Cinema, Pavilion KL.

The festival ends with awards ceremony, the Malaysia Golden Global Awards 2022, to be held on July 16 at Istana Budaya, Kuala Lumpur and will be streamed on MIFFest’s YouTube channel.
