Hong Kong actor Donnie Yen shares on Instagram that he has completed filming John Wick 4 and is headed home after being on the film set for four months.
The action flick headlined by Keanu Reeves were shot on location at France, Japan, Germany and the United States.
In the one-minute video, the 58-year-old martial artist said that the filming experience was super fun and creative. “I think you guys are going to really love this one (John Wick 4),” he said in the video.
The Ip Man star also showed off the gifts he got from Reeves and director Chad Stahelski. Reeves gave him a Chinese flute – that had the words “Thank you Donnie, you’re the best – Keanu” embossed on it.
And before he left the movie set, Yen hugged the director and the Hollywood star telling the latter: “I know you guys love me and I love you guys too ... but I gotta go home!” to which Reeves happily replied: “Go home!”
In the caption, Yen wrote: “I like to thank Keanu and Chad for their warmest gestures, this journey has been super fun, these guys are humble, respectful, passionate film makers purely striving to make the best movie, and I really think this particular one will be very special, but for me it’s even more rewarding from this unique experience is that I’d gained genuine friendships.”
News of Yen casting was announced in June this year, and in July flew to Germany to start filming.
All three John Wick films – released in 2014, 2017 and 2019 – were commercial successes, having earned a total of US$573mil (RM2.3bil) at the global box office.
It all started with the first low-budget film which centres on a retired hitman who gets back to killing mode after a two-bit baddie steals his car and kills his dog.
John Wick 4 is set to be released on May 27, 2022 in the United States.
