Aryan Khan, the son of Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan, was released on Oct 30 after spending 27 nights in jail.
He got into a white SUV outside the Arthur Road jail in Mumbai under heavy security, and was driven to Shah Rukh’s residence in Bandra where fans had gathered.
It was a case of an early Deepavali celebration for both the Khan family and the fans, who were beating the dhol (drum) and carrying banners to mark the occasion.
The 23-year-old Aryan was arrested on Oct 3 by the India’s Narcotics Control Bureau after a raid at an alleged rave party on a yacht off the coast of Mumbai.
He was denied bail twice previously before Bombay High Court granted the bail along with two other co-accused in the case, Arbaaz Merchant and Munmun Dhamecha.
According to an Indian media, the judge passed the bail after issuing 14 conditions including “surrendering their passports immediately and not try to delay the trial in any manner once it begins”.
They were released on a personal bond of Rs1lakh (RM5,528) each.
Since his son’s arrest, the Bollywood star had paused all his professional duties and was working closely with his legal team.
India Times reported that Shah Rukh was trying to help the legal team in any way possible since Aryan's arrest. It stated: “When the court granted bail to Aryan on Oct 28, SRK had tears in his eyes.”
Earlier the Khan family had said they were not going to celebrate Deepavali or upcoming birthdays – Shah Rukh’s birthday falls on Nov 2 and Aryan turns 24 on Nov 13 – as Aryan was still in jail. Shah Rukh was also going to ask fans not to gather outside his home as they usually do on his birthday.
With his son safely back home for now, Shah Rukh is apparently all set to return to his acting job sometime this month (November).
News18 also quoted a source close to the family: "Shah Rukh has decided to have a low-key birthday celebration. This year too, he is expected to greet his fans who have stood by him during these testing times. He wants to thank them and appreciate them for their support."
