Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan and wife Gauri Khan are understandably not in the mood to celebrate any festival in light of their son’s arrest.
It’s reported that the family has decided not to celebrate this year’s Deepavali. And having sweets at their home is also now forbidden.
One Indian news portal reported that Gauri has instructed her kitchen staff at home not to make any sweet treats until Aryan comes home. She had said this after finding out that they were making kheer, a popular sweet dish in India.
The same article mentioned that Gauri is quite distraught with her son’s arrest and has quit consuming sweets since Oct 7.
Sweet treats are an important food item in the Indian community and are a main feature in festivals and weddings. It is said that sweet items represent goodness and are seen as a form of blessing.

Aryan, 23, was one the people arrested after a drug raid at a party on a cruise ship off the Mumbai coast in early October.
He was later placed at the Arthur Road Central Jail in Mumbai, India. He has already spent 18 days in jail.
His second bail hearing plea was to take place Wednesday (Oct 20). Indian news media reported that the court has once again rejected Aryan’s bail plea.
An earlier report stated that Aryan was not doing well in the prison environment and disliked prison food. It further revealed that the young man was in a state of anxiety.
Even the prison authorities were said to be worried about Aryan’s health and well-being.
Last week (Oct 14), Shah Rukh had sent money order to the prison amounting to Rs4,500 (RM250) so Aryan could purchase different food dishes from the prison canteen.
