Famed Malaysian producer-director Mamat Khalid passed away today (Oct 24) at Slim River Hospital in Perak. He was 58.
Hafiz Nafiah, secretary general of Persatuan Seniman, confirmed the director's passing to Kosmo!.
According to Hafiz, Mamat fainted at his restaurant, Sarang Art Hub, in Tanjung Malim on Saturday night. He was then rushed to the hospital in an ambulance but died on the way, around 12.30am.
Celebrities Zul Ariffin and Didie Alias took to social media to express their condolences to Mamat's family.
"Al-Fatihah and condolences to the family of the late Mamat Khalid ... Thanks brother for entertaining my late mum and making her smile on the set (of Hantu Kak Limah) ...," Zul wrote on Instagram.
Mamat, whose full name is Mohamad Mohamad Khalid, helmed box office hits such as Hantu Kak Limah Balik Kampung, Zombie Kampung Pisang and Man Laksa.
In January 2019, Mamat was admitted to Assunta Hospital in Selangor after he was found to have fluid collection in his lungs.
The director leaves behind wife Hasmah Hassan and five children.
