Going straight from playing a temptress in K-drama The World Of The Married to portraying a tough woman out for revenge in the action-packed series My Name was definitely a drastic change for actress Han So-hee.
But since the 26-year-old really wanted to take on the physical role, she signed on to My Name without any hesitation even though she knew it would be challenging.
To make sure she can capably execute all the action sequences herself, the Nevertheless actress trained for three months before My Name’s production kicked off, starting out a month earlier than her male co-stars who trained for two months.
In the process, her weight went up.
Han shared with StarLifestyle and other Asian media during a virtual press conference held at Seoul, South Korea: “Since I worked out a lot, and I ate what I wanted, I gained 10kg from the weight I was during The World Of The Married.
“But it’s not just muscle. I think there’s a little bit of fat in there too!”
She also looked to Hollywood actress Charlize Theron's films for inspiration on how to pull off a believable action female character on-screen.
“I watched the movie Atomic Blonde, focusing on the long take fight scene in the film to get an idea," she said.
“I also referred to the film Old Guard. I saw many YouTube videos related to female action scenes,” she added.
My Name centres on Yoon Ji-woo (Han) who joins a crime organisation to find the person who killed her father. On her path for revenge, she takes on a new name and works undercover as a police officer.
The series also stars Park Hee-soon, Ahn Bo-hyun, Kim Sang-ho, Lee Hak-ju and Jang Yull. It will be released on Netflix, Oct 15.
