Malaysian singer Layla Sania is following the footsteps of another local singer who has made it big internationally, Yuna.

Layla recently became the second Malaysian artiste, after Yuna, picked by Spotify to be featured on the Times Square billboard in New York City.

The 19-year-old singer was featured as artiste of the month for Spotify’s Equal Singapore and Malaysia programme on the billboard ad. Equal is the streaming giant's global programme fostering equity for women in music.

“I’m super grateful to be a part of Equal programme by Spotify. This means a lot to me as a singer and I’ve never imagined that I’ll ever be on the billboard in Times Square, New York, following in the footsteps of my fellow Malaysian Yuna and a lot of other amazing international artistes," Layla said in a statement.

"I hope I can serve as an inspiration to all female musicians out there, that women have the power to change the world, no matter who and where we are,” she added.

Layla made her debut in the local music scene with the release of her Malay single Que Sera Sera in mid 2019. In January this year, she released a Mandarin single, By Your Side.
