Malaysian actress Yeo Yann Yann is set to star in Netflix action thriller Havoc, reported Variety.
She joins main cast comprising Tom Hardy, Forest Whitaker, Timothy Olyphant, Justin Cornwell (The Umbrella Academy) and Jessie Mei Li (Shadow And Bone).
The 44-year-old told Variety: “My heart is filled with excitement. I can’t wait to start the shoot.”
Supporting cast members include actor Luiz Guman (Boogie Nights), Singaporean martial artist Sunny Pang and UFC mixed martial artist Michelle Waterson.
Havoc centres on a detective who enters the criminal underworld in order to rescue a politician’s estranged son. Along the way, he unravels a web of corruption and conspiracy that's been gripping his city.
Yeo’s role in the film is not known as of now.
The film is written and directed by Welsh-born filmmaker Gareth Evans, who was once based in Indonesia and helmed the extremely successful Indonesian action films The Raid (2011) and The Raid II (2014).
8days.com reported that Havoc production is the midst of rehearsals in Wales, with filming scheduled to start in the “middle of next month”.
In December last year, Yeo won the Best Actress In A Leading Role at the Asian Academy Creative Awards for her role in the HBO Asia series, Invisible Stories. She also received an Emmy nomination.
Her other noted projects are films Ilo Ilo and Wet Season, directed by Singaporean filmmaker Anthony Chen.
