Who can forget the hit telenovela Mis Tres Hermanas and its catchy theme song Purest Of Pain?
The Venezuelan soap opera, which first premiered in 2000 and later aired in 2002 in Malaysia, has recently been adapted into a Malay-language drama, Hati Yang Dikhianati.
Mis Tres Hermanas, or My Three Sisters, begins with the story of older brother Augusto (Carlos Cruz) who had to take care of his younger three sisters – Silvia (Dad Dager), Lisa (Scarlet Ortiz) and Beatriz (Chantal Baudaux) – after being abandoned by their father and the death of their mother.
Later, one of its central stories is the love between playboy engineer Santiago (Ricardo Alamo) who is determined to shut down the clinic where Lisa, a nurse, works.
The show ran for 150 episodes and became wildly popular among Malaysians.
In the local adaptation, popular TV actor Amar Baharin plays Zuhri Elyas, a character based on Santiago.
Meanwhile, singer-turned-actress Isyariana plays Nur Melisa, a character based on Lisa.
"The fans of the original drama are probably in their 30s, 40s and 50s now. I'm honoured to be given the chance to help viewers relive those memories. It inspires me to give my full commitment to the show," Amar told Astro Gempak.
However, the Malaysian version is bringing something new to the table. It will be introducing an interactive element around its 40th episode mark.
Audiences will get to decide on plot twists, whether a character lives or dies and even how many episodes the show will go on for.
A special panel has been appointed to evaluate the audience's responses and have them reflected in the storyline.
Hati Yang Dikhianati airs weekdays at 9pm on Astro Prima (Ch 105) and Astro Go.
