One of the most highly-anticipated music events in the local showbiz calendar, the semi-finals of song competition Muzik Muzik, was temporarily halted when one of its performers tested positive for Covid-19 last month.

The semi-final round was scheduled to take place across three consecutive nights, beginning Nov 20.

Singer Alif Satar, who performed on Nov 20, tested positive on Nov 22, resulting in the third night of performances being called off.

Singers who shared the Muzik Muzik stage with Alif were subsequently screened for Covid-19. They were all negative.

The last batch of performances were finally given on Dec 15.

The song competition, which recognises the contribution of songwriters, sees the day's most popular songs evaluated and judged by a panel of industry professionals.

Following the semi-final performances, the 30 songs were whittled to just 12.

This year's top 12 list includes three songs written by Hael Husaini: Belenggu Rindu, Peluang Kedua and Hati.

The finals, the prestigious Anugerah Juara Lagu, will see only one song awarded the Best Song honour.

It is scheduled to take place Feb 7.
