Nurflix, the first Syariah-compliant streaming service in the country, will be screening 12 original and exclusive local dramas and films with Islamic content beginning October.
Nurflix chairman Datuk Seri Syed Zainal Abidin Mohd Tahir said for three months until December, the site will be accessible free of charge.
"This is to enable Nurflix to obtain feedback and improve services and set subscription prices at affordable rates,” he said, targeting subscriptions to start in January 2021.
He said this at the press conference after the launch of Nurflix at the Tengku Ampuan Jemaah Mosque, Bukit Jelutong, Shah Alam, Selangor last week.
During the launch, Nurflix chief executive officer Syah Mohamed said that Nurflix will screen its original and exclusive 12 dramas and films featuring popular local actors.
"The unique thing about Nurflix is that royalty payments are not limited to the creators, because all the cast involved will also be paid.
"That is why we will also establish the Nurflix Academy to unearth new talents in arts with Islamic content,” he said, adding that Nurflix aimed at producing 1,000 titles in five years.
Meanwhile, Nurflix spokesman Uthman Daud when contacted by Bernama explained that Nurflix content will be supervised and monitored by a special advisory body called Nurpath led by renowned preacher Habib Ali Zainal Abidin as its advisor.
He said, when contacted through the WhatsApp application, that this panel will be responsible for ensuring that the production team fully complies with syariah standards, both in terms of script and acting.
Uthman said that currently, the Nurflix Internet TV platform, developed by Sutera Hijau Ventures Berhad, can be accessed through the Nurflix.tv website, while mobile applications will be launched soon. – Bernama
