Actor Fadlan Hazim opened up about his mental health struggles for the first time on July 7 to his fans on Instagram.

"I've been hiding my mental disorder and (I've avoided seeking) professional help since my teenage years, I thought I'm doing okay, how stupid of me! Now it's time," he posted.

Fadlan, 28, later told Berita Harian he suffered abuse as a child and is still feeling the effects of it as an adult:

"I was a victim of abuse as a child and it has had a negative effect on my emotions since... I'm still haunted by the past to this day.

"There are times where I would act aggressively and there are other times where I would rather keep to myself."

Fadlan, who gained popularity on romance dramas like Cinta Si Wedding Planner, says he has been using acting as a way to escape from his inner turmoil.

"When I'm working, I can put those negative emotions out of my mind. But when filming ends, those thoughts would return again."

The Sangkar star says he finally decided to seek treatment as his unresolved past is starting to affect his work.

"I've left it untreated for so long I can feel myself getting worse and it has nearly affected my acting career.

"It's time I got professional help."
