39th Hong Kong Film Awards to be livestreamed next week

There will be no red carpet, no live audience, and no applause for the winners of the 39th Hong Kong Film Awards (HKFA2020) this year.

Instead, the HKFA2020 will be a completely virtual event that is slated to be live-streamed on May 6,2020 at 3pm.

The live stream is estimated to take up to 20 minutes and the award winners in all 19 categories will be announced in a live broadcast hosted by HKFA Chairman Derek Yee.

This will be the first time that the Hong Kong Film Awards has had to do without a physical award presentation ceremony.

Traditionally a star-studded glamorous affair held at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre in mid-April, the HKFA award presentation ceremony was forced to switch to a different format this year due to safety and logistical issues as a result of the Covid-19 global pandemic.

As such, the 39th HKFA results will be announced in real time on the Hong Kong Film Awards official YouTube channel, Facebook page and Instagram live stream.

This year’s HKFA sees a total of 112 nominees in 19 award categories.

Schoolyard bullying film Better Days leads with 12 nominations including Best Film, Best Director (Derek Tsang), Best Actor (Jackson Yee), Best Actress (Zhou Dongyu), Best New Performer (Yee), Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing.
