Upin & Ipin go to Oscars!

The mischievous twins are going places. The animated feature Upin & Ipin: Keris Siamang Tunggal has been submitted for consideration in the Best Animated Feature category.

This is the first time a Malaysian animated feature has made it to this category.

Other entries competing to be in final list of five nominees include Toy Story 4, Frozen 2, Addams Family, Weathering with You, How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World and Angry Birds 2.

Released in March this year, Keris Siamang Tunggal garnered a total of RM25mil at the box office and was No.1 animated film before it was overtaken by BoBoiBoy Movie 2.

The film was also released in Indonesia and China, with Mandarin dubbing.

It has also been dubbed in English (with the title Upin & Ipin: The Lone Gibbon Kris), which was done in the United States.

In an interview with Astro Awani, Les Copaque’s CEO Burhanuddin Md Radzi said that they will showcase the film in Los Angeles cinemas to adhere to the Oscar nomination criteria.

The report also noted that Burhanuddin decided to send it for Oscar, after seeing the reception it got at the Montreal Film Festival.
