Abang Long Fadil 2, which opened in cinemas on Aug 24, has already made RM13mil at the local box office. This was announced by production company Astro Shaw and director Syafiq Yusof on their social media accounts.
Produced with RM3.2mil budget, it stars popular actor Zizan Razak in the titular role, as well as Syamsul Yusof, Wak Doyok, Datuk AC Mizal and veteran actor A. Galak.
Fadil is an unemployed man who gets caught up in the world of gangsters when he’s mistaken for a hitman. The movie has earned rave reviews from critics and viewers with most praising its comedic performances and explosive action sequences.
Abang Long Fadil 2 has also successfully surpassed action movie J Revolusi (released in March with a box office receipt of RM7.1mil) as this year’s highest-grossing Malaysian movie.
Only time will tell if Abang Long Fadil 2 will become Malaysia’s highest-grossing movie. At the moment Polis Evo, released in 2015, holds the record with a box office collection of RM17.47mil.
The first Abang Long Fadil film was released in 2014, with the main character originally seen in the KL Gangster (2011) movie series directed by Syamsul.
