This December, step into a "tale as old as time" as Disney's Beauty And The Beast blockbuster musical takes the stage at Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands - its only stop in Asia.
The musical, now given a contemporary makeover and fresh dazzle, will run from Dec 11 to Jan 4, 2026.
It is produced by Disney Theatrical Group under the direction of Andrew Flatt, Anne Quart, and Thomas Schumacher and presented in Singapore by Base Entertainment Asia.
Based on the beloved 1991 animated film, the original stage production of Beauty And The Beast (in 1994) played for more than 13 years on Broadway, remaining to this day one of the top 10 longest-running shows in Broadway history, and touring to 37 countries worldwide.
“For three decades, we’ve heard from audiences that the characters, songs and sweeping romance of Beauty And The Beast have touched them in a profound way,” said Quart, Disney Theatrical Group’s executive producer, in a media statement.
“How proud we are to bring this refreshed and human take on the show – with the scale and spectacle the title deserves – to longtime fans and an entirely new generation. This Beauty is for them,” she added.
Audiences in Asia will be enchanted by this new production, which still includes the classic elements. It features the nostalgic and spellbinding songs of Alan Menken, Howard Ashman, and Tim Rice, including Belle, Gaston, Be Our Guest, and the cherished title song, Beauty And The Beast.
Members of the creative team from the original Broadway musical have also returned for this current touring production, including Olivier Award nominee Matt West, who takes the helm as director and choreographer; original composer Alan Menken; lyricist Tim Rice; book writer Linda Woolverton; scenic designer Stan Meyer; costume designer Ann Hould-Ward; and lighting designer Natasha Katz.
In 1994, this same team collectively received five Tony nominations and a win for Hould-Ward’s costume design when Beauty And The Beast debuted on Broadway.
Beauty And The Beast, currently touring Australian cities, has enjoyed an impressive run, with recent ticket sales surpassing one million across Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne, an achievement it will far exceed once the production has played Adelaide and Perth, setting the stage for this highly anticipated season in Singapore.
For Malaysian theatre and musical fans eagerly awaiting the return of international productions to Kuala Lumpur, the wait goes on. The last major international show staged in the city was The Sound Of Music, also a Base Entertainment Asia production, which ran at Istana Budaya in late December 2022.
