Cantonese theatre show Left Unsaid is set to make its debut in Malaysia, starring renowned Hong Kong film and TV stars Cecilia Yip and Kenny Wong.
The dark drama will be staged at Pentas 1, Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPac) on May 9 and 10, with three performances. It is organised by Hong Kong’s renowned experimental theatre group Zuni Icosahedron (HK) in collaboration with W Productions (Malaysia) and supported by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Jakarta.
After a sold-out five-show run at Hong Kong Cultural Centre Grand Theatre last November, Left Unsaid earned widespread critical acclaim. Now, the production is launching its international tour, with Kuala Lumpur as its first stop.
Left Unsaid, which includes Chinese and English surtitles, features Yip, 62, and Wong, 61, as well as veteran theatre practitioner David Yeung and actor Zachary Pink Yung.
The play, an adaptation of the original stage play The Unspoken by Nick Yu Rong-Jun, follows a married couple – both esteemed neurosurgeons – who communicate daily, yet never truly connect. When an old classmate unexpectedly visits, long-buried family secrets begin to unravel.
Beyond its compelling narrative, Left Unsaid integrates Zuni Icosahedron’s signature “arts-tech” elements. Directed and adapted by Mathias Woo, who also helms stage and multimedia design, this HK production uses video and multimedia technology in live theatre, breaking traditional theatrical boundaries and offering audiences an unprecedented immersive theatre experience.
The production team also boasts some of Hong Kong’s best talents in film and theatre, including art director Yee Chung-Man as art and styling director, renowned film producer Joseph Chan as producer, and music directors Cedric Chan and Yu Yat-Yiu, who add an immersive auditory experience.
The Kuala Lumpur stop of Left Unsaid’s international tour will be a rare opportunity for theatre-lovers in Malaysia to experience the cutting-edge creativity of Hong Kong theatre and witness a stellar ensemble cast in action live on stage.
