A striking giant mural featuring the beloved 1990s animated character and the upcoming film Keluang Man, set for release next year, has become a new attraction in Kluang, Johor.

Kluang Municipal Council (MPK) president, Azurawati Wahid, said the Keluang Man mural, towering three storeys high, is the work of renowned graffiti group Abdulrashade led by Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman.

The mural, located at Laman Pesona Kluang, was unveiled on Sept 7 during the launch of the live-action Keluang Man film, with Kluang district officer Mohd Rafi Abdullah officiating the event.

"We, at the Kluang district and MPK, are proud to promote arts and culture, enhancing the image of both Kluang and Johor.

"This mural is a significant recognition for Kluang and has the potential to transform the area into a tourist destination, complementing other murals at Laman Pesona Kluang,” Azurawati told Bernama recently.

Meanwhile, Abdul Rashid expressed his enthusiasm for the project, driven by his affection for the character that captivated children of the late 1990s.

The mural features key characters from the film, including Keluang Man, Inspector Sahab, Dr Malini, Shamsir, Ahmad and Keluang Man’s beloved cat, Babe.

A special edition coffee can, symbolising Kluang’s renowned coffee culture, is also featured in the artwork.

"We completed the mural in ten days using special paints and spray to ensure its durability. The coffee can visual honours Kluang's coffee reputation and celebrates the ‘Kluang coffee culture’ and the authentic taste of Malaysian coffee,” Abdul Rashid explained.

Shweta Sekhon, who portrays Dr Malini in the film, believes in the importance of celebrating Keluang Man.

"Reviving this superhero through a mural in Kluang is fitting, as the character originates from Johor and embodies strength and bravery,” she said. – Bernama
