CONCERT: HOW THE GIMQUAT FOUND HER SONG

Venue: Dewan Filharmonik Petronas, KLCC

How the Gimquat Found Her Song is a heart-warming tale about the search for identity and also a show to get the young ones interested in classical music.

It is one of Canada-based Platypus Theatre’s most beloved family concerts, allowing audiences to embark on a musical expedition across continents and through centuries to help a discouraged bird discover her unique voice.

The hour-long show, which is part of the MPO’s Family Fun Day concert programming, will see MPO performing works such as Bizet’s Carmen Suite No. 1 - Prelude, Berlioz’s Mother Goose Suite, Offenbach’s Can Can, Gregorian Chant, and Mozart’s The Marriage Of Figaro Overture.

Naohisa Furusawa, the MPO’s resident conductor, will lead this family day concert.

ART EXHIBITION: HARI-HARI MALAYSIA

Venue: Balai Seni Maybank, Menara Maybank, KL

Maybank Foundation returns with its first on-site exhibition at Balai Seni Maybank in more than two years! And it is showcasing newcomer artists, designers and illustrations, a sure sign that the gallery is invested in nurturing young talent.

The digital art exhibition entitled Hari-Hari Malaysia: A Collection of Wordless Comics Celebrating Independence And Nationhood 2022 sees a total of 88 artworks from 21 artists (students to young art school graduates) on display.

The show focuses on comics or sequential art, a popular medium of artwork among the youth. If you are a manga or comics fan, then this youthful show is definitely worth a visit.

Balai Seni Maybank opening hours: Monday to Friday, 10am to 5pm, Saturday, 11am to 4pm. Free admission.

KIDPRENEURS' WEEKEND BAZAAR

Venue: The School, Jaya One, Petaling Jaya

Date: Sept 10 and 11

My First Seed’s Kidpreneurs’ Weekend Bazaar encourages children and teenagers to try at hand at business and entrepreneurship through setting up stalls, pitching and selling their products, and other real world skills.

The bazaar is located at Level G at The School, in front of the Doi Chang cafe.

WE BE-LEAF TOGETHER: TAPIRAMA ART EXHIBITION 2022

Venue: Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPac)

Date: Sept 4-17

Presented by Kelab Belia Prihatin Malaysia, this Tapirama Art Exhibition is part of its national environmental awareness campaign We Be-Leaf Together.

It features the work of its in-house artists Nor Azmi Mokhtar and Isa Sri Sulo, the focus of this show is the Tapir, Tenggiling and other animal friends and our rich biodiversity.

In conjunction with this exhibition, there will be a series of events that include live doodling sessions, drawing workshops and art auction.

YOUTH CRAFT FOR ASIA (YOCA)

Venue: Pentas 1, KLPac

Date: Sept 1-4

This is the first annual youth conference initiated by Sukaseni which focuses on the creative economy industry development and cultural exchange.

Besides the arts and craft showcase, there will also be talks where speakers from all over Asia will present their insights on culture and the arts.

BUILD YOUR DREAM CITY

Venue: GMBB, KL

Date: Sept 5-9

Time to build a cardboard city. Whether your child has a love for building forts at home or is an aspiring architect with a knack for designing structures, they will have loads to learn at this five-day "Build Your Dream City" holiday camp at the GMBB arts mall in KL.

Participants will be interacting with real objects and tools to make their own cityscape. Some of the key takeaways from this camp are learning how to read maps and terrains, the design of a built environment, what makes a good city planning, and the steps from ideation to execution. All cardboard city creations made during this camp will be exhibited for three days at GMBB in conjunction with GMBB’s Malaysia Day event from Sept 16-18.

KONGSI SCHOOL: VOICE EXPLORATION AND IMPROVISATION

Venue: KongsiKL, Gudang Yee Seng 2, Taman Goodwood, Old Klang Road, KL

Date: Sept 4, Sept 11 and Sept 18

In the Kongsi School series, three vocal improvisors/classical artistes - Charlotte Leng, Kok Siew Wai and Loke Xiao Yun - look set to introduce new ways to use your voice.

This is not your conventional singing class. It is an introductory guided voice exploration class for anyone who wishes to discover and expand one's tonal palette, allowing free and playful use of voice for self-expression and other creative works.

Each lesson will end with an improvisation session to put the new-found sounds in use.
