Malaysian author Mohana Gill has been selected for inclusion in the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) Honour List 2020 for her children’s book, Hayley’s Fantastic Fruits.

This book is one of eight titles from the Hayley’s Happylicious series. It follows the adventures of Hayley and friend Zac, as well as their beloved pets Bonbon and Ziggy, as they make their way around Uncle Joe’s orchard and learn about the fantastic world of fruits. Included in the book are easy recipes that children can recreate at home with help from an adult.

“I have always been mindful of my health and what I eat,” says Mohana, who turned 83 earlier this year.

“I wanted to impart that onto my grandchildren and I knew it had to be done in a fun, colourful way that would spark their imagination. Prior to the Hayley’s series, I had written a number of cookbooks, all of which have won numerous international awards. So naturally, I thought of a series of books for children,” she adds.

Hayley’s Fantastic Fruits has also picked up honours from the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards, Nautilus Book Awards and Book Excellence Awards
