Lavish CNY meals to suit new norm

(Clockwise from top left) Among the many tantalising dishes are Fresh Salmon Sashimi Yee Sang, Roasted Duck, Hong Kong-style Steamed Tiger Grouper and Mongolian-style Lamb Rack. Note that the dine-in packages are subject to MCO conditions.

WITH the world as it is, families in Penang may want to scale down traditionally large Chinese New Year gatherings into more intimate affairs.

One of the best venues for that is Eastern and Oriental (E&O) Hotel which has crafted a trio of flexible banquet packages with the new norm in mind.

Choose from the Fortune Set at RM88.80+ per person, Longevity Set at RM138.80+ per person and Prosperity Set at RM188.80+ per person – all for a minimum of 12 pax.

Whether you opt for lunch or dinner, the hotel’s many elegant function rooms provide a safe environment for private dining away from other patrons.

These sets will be available once the latest movement control order restrictions are lifted until Feb 28, giving families some leeway to plan festive meals.

Menus vary across the three sets but all start with Yee Sang. For the Longevity Set, this Chinese New Year must-have comes with salmon sashimi.

All subsequent courses are served on individual plates for hygiene reasons. The table service will also add refinement to your reunions and impress your guests.

Up next are the comforting Chicken Broth with Shredded Abalone, Sea Cucumber and Crabmeat, and lip-smacking Deep-Fried Crispy Boneless Chicken with Pineapple Sauce.

The Hong Kong-style Steamed Tiger Grouper is smooth and luxurious while the Mongolian-style Lamb Rack is sure to have many raving about it.

Sauteed Broccoli and Mushrooms in Superior Oyster Sauce offers a healthy dose of greens.

Completing the savouries are Wok-Fried Prawns in Kam Heong Sauce and Lotus Leaf Rice with Chicken, Mushrooms and Dried Shrimps.

Dessert comes in the form of Sweetened Snow Fungus and Dried Longan with Mandarin Orange Skin and Shanghai Pancake.

The hotel also has great takeaway items should you prefer to have reunions at home.

They include Yee Sang with Smoked Salmon or Fresh Salmon Sashimi (RM88), Sliced Abalone (RM198) or Vegetarian (RM58).

Fill your table with E&O’s signature Roasted Duck (RM98), Herbal Chicken (RM118), Beef Wellington (RM490), Roast Lamb Leg (RM290) or Roast Ribeye (RM450). Any one will make a great centrepiece.

There are also assorted Chinese New Year cookies, tarts and cakes. All takeaway item prices are nett. These are also available till Feb 28, with three days’ pre-order required.
