‘Naughty and nice’ festive spread


The crispy chicken ballotine takes on a new twist, as it is also stuffed with turkey ham and apricot.

A GOOD meal with family and friends is a nice way to celebrate any occasion.

With Christmas and the new year approaching, Nook’s culinary team at Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral has come up with new meat and seafood menu items as well as plant-based dishes.

Aloft executive chef Norhanis Nordin called it Nook’s Naughty and Nice Christmas spread.

He said the team was always looking for creative ways to cook ordinary dishes and use local ingredients.

“There will be no roast turkey this time, but we’ll be using the meat to stuff our crispy chicken ballotine.

“Meat lovers have many other options. There will be garlic roast leg of lamb served with classic mint sauce, slow-cooked lamb with grilled aubergine and feta crumble and braised beef brisket in shallot jus served with soft polenta cake and charred carrots,” he said.

Besides seafood on ice, the festive menu will include salmon platter comprising salmon smoked and cured four ways – in beetroot, charcoal, lemon dill or honey lemon – pan-fried seabass with caramelised fennel and orange glaze and salmon coulibiac.

Those seeking plant-based food can look forward to dishes like beetroot hummus, spinach, almond and cranberry salad as well as Brussels sprouts and pear with pomegranate.

For dessert, pastry chef Zahrin Madzlan will be serving his signature log cakes, namely Mangonificent which has fresh mango cubes in the centre topped with some chocolate; Sweet Darkness 61, a dark chocolate cake made from 61% dark chocolate and decorated with chocolate stars; as well as Lady in Red, a raspberry mousse log cake with an accent of pistachio.

There will also be mini eggnog cups (non-alcoholic), festive cake-pops, rhubarb and gingerbread trifle, traditional mince pies, Christmas pudding and the ever-popular chocolate fountain.

For those planning to celebrate at home, the 3kg crispy chicken ballotine (RM140), 2kg oven-roasted prime rib (RM680) and 4kg garlic roast leg of lamb (RM320) will be available for takeaway, complete with sides.

All Christmas log cakes retail at RM118 per cake.

A 48-hour advance booking is required for takeaway.

Christmas Eve dinner and New Year’s Eve dinner are priced at RM168 nett per person.

Buffet dinner will be available from 6pm to 10.30pm.

Christmas Day brunch and New Year’s Day brunch are priced at RM148 nett.

Brunch will be available from noon to 3pm.

Children below six dine free, with 50% off for children aged between six and 12.
