Usher in prosperity and longevity with special set meals

The roasted pei pa aromatic duck was both tender and crispy.

AS the Year of the Tiger approaches, those celebrating can look forward to savouring special dishes usually served only during the festive period.

Despite not having a Chinese restaurant under its roof at the moment, Glenmarie Hotel and Golf Resort’s team of Chinese chefs have managed to craft two special set menus that are available for dine-in and takeaway.

The resort’s cluster general manager Jung Chul Soon said it would utilise its event and meeting space exclusively for its Chinese New Year promotion.

“While more are dining out, many still don’t want to be among crowds.

“To meet this demand, we can provide one table per room or up to eight tables in our ballrooms and meeting rooms.”

He added that the menu was guided by traditional cuisines but with modern twists added.

The addition gives this auspicious dish a crackling twist which is bound to make tossing even more enjoyable.

The Yee Sang is available with air-flown salmon (RM148 for one portion, RM88 for half portion) or jellyfish (RM108 for one portion, RM68 for half portion).

Also available for takeaway in half (RM598) or full (RM1,188) portion is the delectable Poon Choy dish, which takes 48 hours to prepare and the pot comes filled with scallops, mushrooms, abalone, chicken, duck, sea cucumber, fish maw and smoked duck, among other ingredients.

Both the “Prosperity” (RM688) and “Longevity” (RM888) set menus cater to six people with eight dishes including yee sang.

The Longevity set starts off with yee sang topped with sashimi-grade salmon from New Zealand and popping candy.

Next is the wholesome double- boiled dried seafood broth with fresh ginseng, bamboo pith and shimeji mushrooms.

The roasted pei pa aromatic duck has a crispy skin while the meat is tender.

Chef Mike Yip said the ingredients, including seven herbs and spices, were marinated overnight before being put on a slow roast.

The Teochew-style steamed grouper served with beancurd and mustard greens was a good follow-up to the bold flavours of the duck.

The fried tiger prawns coated with salted egg yolk was paired with fragrant dry sauce and seasoning.

Also in this set is fried rice with crab meat as well as braised cabbage roll with sliced abalone, dried oyster and sea moss.

Meat, fish and prawns are a must for any auspicious meal and this set comes with crispy roasted chicken served with spicy plum sauce while the steamed red snapper is served with superior soy sauce.

Meanwhile, the poached fresh prawns come infused with ginseng and wolfberries.

This set also comes with braised vegetables with abalone, mushroom, dried oysters and sea moss besides fried rice with barbecued chicken fillet.

Both sets end with a refreshing dessert of sugar cane with white fungus and aloe vera as well as pastries.

The Glenmarie Hotel and Golf Resort Chinese New Year promotion runs from today until Feb 15 and is available for lunch and dinner.

Reservations for dine-in and orders for takeaway need to be made two days in advance, as with orders for the Prosperity Treasure Poon Choy.

The hotel will arrange for delivery upon request, with additional charges depending on the area delivered to.
