International traffic rises at regional airports

PETALING JAYA: Non-core airports under Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) have registered a higher passenger traffic despite softer passenger movements across the group’s local network.

In a statement, the airport operator said its Subang, Penang and Ipoh airports saw a growth in passenger movement – recording 59,000, 348,000 and 31,000 international passenger movements, respectively.

For the first nine months of 2026, the group’s Malaysian airport operations handled 75.2 million passengers, down 2.4% year-on-year. International traffic however, grew 4.5% to 41.3 million passengers.

MAHB managing director Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani said the results showed the importance of strengthening regional connectivity.

“Airports such as Subang, Ipoh and Penang have an important role in expanding Malaysia’s international connectivity.

“We want to build on this momentum by working closely with airlines and tourism stakeholders to develop routes that create more travel opportunities and support the country’s tourism ambitions.”
