CelcomDigi accepts RM381.75mil spectrum award

CelcomDigi said the spectrum assignments are expected to strengthen its spectrum portfolio and support its network requirements in delivering mobile and connectivity services to customers.

PETALING JAYA: CelcomDigi Bhd, through its wholly-owned subsidiary CelcomDigi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (CDTel), has accepted a notice of award for spectrum assignments in the 2,600MHz and 900MHz frequency bands, involving a payment of RM381.75mil.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, the telecommunications group said CDTel received the notice from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission or MCMC on Oct 2, 2026, after being selected as the successful applicant under Lot B of the Applicant Information Package No. 1 of 2026.

CDTel accepted the notice and paid the RM381.75mil price component in full on Oct 15. The payment was funded through a combination of internally generated funds and existing financing facilities.

The proposed assignments comprise 2x20MHz in the 2600MHz band for four years and 2x5MHz in the 900MHz band for five years.

CelcomDigi said the spectrum assignments are expected to strengthen its spectrum portfolio and support its network requirements in delivering mobile and connectivity services to customers.

The assignments are expected to enhance network capacity and service quality, improve network performance, coverage and reliability, enable a contiguous 40MHz spectrum holding in the 2,600MHz band for more efficient spectrum utilisation, and strengthen its 900MHz spectrum position to support wider and deeper coverage.

However, the issuance of the spectrum assignments remains subject to the fulfilment of conditions specified in the notice of award, the applicant information package and applicable regulatory processes and requirements.

CelcomDigi said the proposed assignments are not expected to have any material effect on its issued share capital or substantial shareholders’ shareholdings.

While the assignments are expected to contribute positively to the group’s long-term operational requirements, the payment and annual spectrum fees will affect its earnings, net assets and cash flows over the respective assignment periods.

The firm said it would make a further announcement to Bursa Malaysia upon the issuance of the spectrum assignments to CDTel by MCMC, where appropriate.
