Budget 2027: Govt proposes stamp duty exemptions for first-time homebuyers

KUALA LUMPUR: The government has proposed full stamp duty exemptions on loan agreements and property transfer documents for first-time homebuyers purchasing properties priced up to RM500,000, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

For first homes priced above RM500,000 and up to RM750,000, a full exemption will apply to the first RM500,000, with a 50% exemption on the remaining amount.

Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said the proposed exemptions would apply to sale and purchase agreements executed between Jan 1, 2027 and Dec 31, 2030.

He announced the measures when tabling Budget 2027 in the Dewan Rakyat on Friday.

Additionally, Anwar said the government would also provide full stamp duty exemptions on loan agreements and property transfer documents involving rescue contractors or developers and original buyers of abandoned housing projects.

The measure, effective from Jan 1, 2027 to Dec 31, 2030, is aimed at achieving zero abandoned housing projects by 2030.
