KUALA LUMPUR: ERS Energy Sdn Bhd has surpassed 1.5 gigawatt-hours (GWh) in cumulative utility-scale battery energy storage system (Bess) capacity across South-East Asia, marking a rapid expansion into the energy storage segment.
In a statement to StarBiz, the renewable energy player said the majority of the portfolio had been secured over the past 12 months. It includes a 520 megawatt-hour (MWh) Bess project for ACEN Corp in Zambales, the Philippines, as well as two projects totalling 800MWh secured under Malaysia’s inaugural Battery Energy Storage Programme.
The company said the projects strengthened its position beyond solar engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning and into utility-scale energy storage development and system integration.
It works with established technology partners and financial institutions on complex energy storage deployments, from initial design and project financing through to final grid synchronisation.
“Surpassing 1.5GWh of energy storage capacity is a tremendous testament to our team’s execution discipline and the trust placed in us by our partners, lenders and regional grid operators,” ERS Energy managing director Jonathan Kan said.
“Energy storage is no longer just a supporting asset. It is the foundational backbone of Asean’s clean energy future.”
It noted grid flexibility has become the primary enabler for sustainable growth.
