’s joint venture (JV) with Australia’s BMD Constructions Pty Ltd has secured a A$624mil (RM1.8bil), contract from Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW) for a major road upgrade project in Western Sydney.
In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, Gamuda said the contract for the Elizabeth Drive Upgrade-Mamre Road Upgrade Stage 2 project was awarded to the Gamuda BMD JV on Sept 21.
The JV is equally owned by Gamuda Engineering Pty Ltd (GE Australia), an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of Gamuda, and BMD.
Gamuda said its effective 50% share of the contract is A$312mil, equivalent to about RM908mil.
The design-and-construct contract involves upgrading 4.5km of Elizabeth Drive and 3km of Mamre Road at Kemps Creek in Western Sydney, including associated civil and structural works and utility relocation.
Work is scheduled to commence on Sept 21, with completion targeted for 2030.
The overall project is valued at about A$2bil and is jointly funded by the Australian and New South Wales governments.
“The project will further add to our track record in delivering major infrastructure in New South Wales.
“The award demonstrates TfNSW’s high confidence in GE Australia’s execution capabilities and significant extends our road sector delivery credentials in Australia,” Gamuda said.
The company’s existing road projects in the state include the Coffs Harbour Bypass, M1 Pacific Motorway Extension Black Hill to Tomago and Richmond Road M7 Upgrade.
Gamuda said the project is located in the rapidly growing Western Sydney region, near the Western Sydney International Airport, which is due for completion later this year.
“The growth of the Western Sydney region and opening of the Western Sydney International Airport will drive greater investment in the road sector in coming years,” the company added.
It said the project is also expected to enhance network resilience, improve public transport connectivity and strengthen freight connectivity in Western Sydney.
“The project will contribute positively to the revenue and earnings of the Gamuda Group over the duration of the project.”
