KUALA LUMPUR: Proton recorded its second-best monthly sales performance of 2026 in July, delivering 18,442 vehicles, up 14.9% from June, driven by steady demand for its internal combustion engine (ICE) and electrified vehicle (xEV) models.
“Cumulative sales for the first seven months of 2026 now stand at 118,788 units, representing year-on-year growth of 38.7%,” the national carmaker said in a statement.
Based on the forecast total industry volume (TIV), Proton expects to end July with a year-to-date market share of 25.8%.
The Proton Saga remained the company's best-selling model with 7,814 units delivered in July, bringing year-to-date sales to 52,189 units.
The Proton S70 led the C-segment sedan market with 2,857 units sold, while the Proton X50 maintained its position as Malaysia's best-selling SUV, with 2,291 units sold.
The Proton X90 also retained its lead in the seven-seater D-segment SUV category with 441 units sold.
Deputy chief executive officer Datuk Ir. Abdul Rashid Musa said the July performance reflected continued customer confidence in Proton's products, supported by ongoing improvements in technology, quality and customer experience.
"Beyond introducing new products, we remain focused on enhancing every aspect of ownership, from manufacturing quality and localisation to sales and aftersales service.
“These investments are strengthening Proton’s long-term competitiveness while supporting the continued development of Malaysia's automotive industry,” he added.
Meanwhile, Proton's electrified vehicle brand, Proton e.MAS, recorded its strongest monthly sales since launch, with combined deliveries of the Proton e.MAS 5, Proton e.MAS 7 and Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV reaching 3,888 units in July.
Year-to-date sales of the Proton e.MAS range stood at 21,808 units.
The Proton e.MAS 5 remained Malaysia's best-selling electric vehicle with 13,196 units sold, while the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV continued to lead the plug-in hybrid segment with 4,946 units delivered.
Proton also said its export business recorded its highest monthly volume in more than 13 years, shipping 1,398 units in July, the highest since March 2013, supported by stronger overseas demand and regional production activities involving Proton-Geely models assembled at its Tanjung Malim plant.
The company said the increased export activities are expected to improve plant utilisation, strengthen the local automotive supply chain and support the development of the Automotive High Tech Valley (AHTV).
