KUALA LUMPUR: Proton Holdings Bhd recorded its strongest first-half sales performance in 15 years after delivering more than 100,000 vehicles in the first six months of 2026.
In a statement, the national carmaker said it delivered 16,052 vehicles in June, bringing total group sales for the January-June period to 100,346 units, up 39.1% from the corresponding period last year.
Proton said the performance puts it halfway towards its target of selling 200,000 vehicles this year, supported by continued demand for its internal combustion engine (ICE) models and growth in its Proton e.MAS new energy vehicle (NEV) lineup.
The Proton Saga remained its best-selling model with 44,375 units sold in the first half, up 40% year-on-year.
The Proton X50 recorded 15,345 units, an increase of 35.1%, while the Proton S70 sold 12,832 units, up 37.3%.
Proton X90 continues to dominate the D-segment 7-seater SUV market. Another 388 units were delivered in June, placing the model 50% ahead of its sales performance during the same period in 2025.
"Surpassing 100,000 sales before the halfway point of the year is an important milestone for Proton and reflects the confidence Malaysians continue to place in our products and brand," deputy chief executive officer Datuk Ir Abdul Rashid Musa said.
"What is particularly encouraging is that our growth is broad-based. Demand remains strong for our ICE models while Proton e.MAS continues to expand rapidly, demonstrating our ability to serve customers regardless of where they are in their mobility journey. This balanced growth gives us confidence as we work towards achieving our target of 200,000 sales this year."
Meanwhile, Proton e.MAS deliveries surged 321% year-on-year to 17,920 units in the first half, reinforcing its position as Malaysia's leading new energy vehicle brand.
The locally assembled Proton e.MAS 5 remained the country's best-selling electric vehicle with 10,793 units delivered year-to-date, while the Proton e.MAS 7 recorded 3,053 deliveries. The Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV sold 4,074 units after its launch in February.
PROTON said it will continue expanding production capacity, strengthen its dealer network and introduce new products in the second half of the year as it works towards its 200,000-unit sales target for 2026.
