KUALA LUMPUR: The government has approved more than RM500 million in micro-financing, benefiting more than 30,000 entrepreneurs between May 15 and June 26, 2026, said Finance Minister II, Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.
He said the amount was part of the government’s allocation of more than RM5 billion under the Micro Financing Facility Programme to help micro enterprises sustain their businesses amid rising costs.
The financing was disbursed through Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM), Agrobank, Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN), Bank Rakyat, MARA and TEKUN Nasional.
"The government has also rolled out the RM5 billion MADANI Government Assistance Guarantee Scheme through Syarikat Jaminan Pembiayaan Perniagaan Bhd (SJPP) to ensure micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) have access to financing.
"Between May 15 and June 20, 2026, the SJPP had approved RM219 million in financing guarantees, benefiting more than 300 MSMEs, particularly in the agriculture, construction, logistics and tourism sectors,” he said during the Minister's Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat today.
He was responding to a question from Datuk Andi Muhammad Suryady Bandy (BN-Kalabakan) on the government's immediate and concrete measures to ensure that small traders, hawkers and MSMEs remain resilient amid global economic challenges.
Amir Hamzah said SJPP is also working with banks to facilitate financing restructuring and rescheduling, as well as provide targeted repayment assistance to help MSMEs weather the current challenges.
Additionally, nearly RM1 billion in financing had been approved for more than 1,500 MSMEs under the RM5 billion SME Stabilisation Relief Facility (SME SRF) launched by Bank Negara Malaysia in mid-May 2026, he said.
He added that financing capacity remains sufficient for future applications, with about RM4 billion in funds still available. - Bernama
